METEOROLOGIST SANDRA SHAW. SANDRA: IT IS THE ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM. YOU CAN’T MISS THIS LINE OF STORMS AHEAD OF A COLD FRONT. IT IS GOING TO CONTINUE TO MOVE INTO OUR AREA. THE PRIME TIME TO SEE STRONGER STORMS WOULD BE NOON THROUGH THE COURSE THIS AFTERNOON. BETWEEN FORT MYERS, STILLWELL TO THE NORTH AND WEST OF LAKE OKEECHOBEE, WE HAVE THIS LINE CHARACTERIZED BY HEAVY DOWNPOURS AND LIGHTNING. WHETHER OR NOT WE GET SEVERE WEATHER DEPENDS ON HOW MUCH CLOUD COVER WE HAVE THERE IS SOME OUT THERE NOW. THE HOTTER IT GETS AHEAD OF THIS LINE, THE MORE LIKELY WE ARE TO HAVE SEVERE STORMS WITH HAIL, LIGHTNING, AND HEAVY RAIN. WE KNOW IT IS COMING THROUGH WITH AT LEAST HEAVY RAIN TODAY. ALL OF THE PENINSULA OF FLORIDA, INCLUDING OUR AREA, IS UNDER A MARGINAL RISK OF SEEING ISOLATED SEVERE STORMS FROM NOON UNTIL ABOUT 3:00 THIS AFTERNOON. IT IS A FAST-MOVING FRONT. A GET OUT OF HERE QUICKLY. RIGHT NOW, WE ARE AT 70 DEGREES IN WEST PALM AHEAD OF THAT LINE. WE HAVE LOW 70’S AROUND THE LAKE NOW. BOCA RATON, IN THE UPPER 70’S AS WELL. WE WILL HIT 83 TO 86 RAY DAYTIME HIGH. WE PULL IN NICELY TO DOWNPOURS AT ABOUT 10:00 A.M. TO 11:00. NOON THROUGH THE EARLY AFTERNOON, WE PEAK WITH THE THREAT OF STORMS. Line of Strong Storms Headed for SFL
A line of strong storms out ahead of a cold front will sweep through South Florida today from about noon until the early evening. There is a risk some of the storms could turn severe with wind gusts over 40 mph and heavy rains. Once the line clears the area will dry out quickly. Highs will reach the middle to upper 80s.
